From family-friendly activities to meaningful ways to give back, here are four opportunities to celebrate Thanksgiving in Needham and nearby communities.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to appreciate the people and places that make our communities special. And while gathering around the table is certainly part of the holiday, there are plenty of ways to celebrate beyond our own homes.
Whether you're looking for a family activity, a way to support a local nonprofit, or an opportunity to volunteer, here are four ways to get involved this November.
1. Start Thanksgiving With Gratitude
Ripples of Hope Family Gratitude Turkey Trot | Dedham
Start Thanksgiving morning with a little exercise and a lot of community spirit!
The annual Family Gratitude 5K Turkey Trot and Kids ½ Mile Run brings people together while raising money for the Dedham Food Pantry, Dedham Youth Commission, and other community initiatives.
Whether you run, walk, volunteer, or cheer from the sidelines, it's a wonderful way to begin the holiday.

2. Give a Little Time Close to Home
Needham Community Council | Needham
The Needham Community Council does so much for our neighbors throughout the year, and there are many ways to lend a hand.
Volunteer opportunities include helping at the Food Pantry, Thrift Store, assisting with deliveries, tutoring, and more. There are opportunities for adults, students, families, and groups.
It's a great reminder that even a little time can make a meaningful difference.

3. A Little Thanksgiving Fun for the Kids
Annual Turkey Hunt | Needham Park & Recreation
Looking for something fun to do with younger children?
Needham Park & Recreation is hosting its annual Turkey Hunt on Saturday, November 14, at the Rosemary Recreation Complex.
Children ages 2–8 can enjoy arts and crafts before searching for hidden Park & Recreation turkeys.
There are two sessions, 9:00–10:00 AM and 10:30–11:30 AM, with a $12 registration fee per child. Adults must accompany their children.

4. Pie With a Purpose
Community Servings' Pie in the Sky | Eastern Massachusetts
Here's a delicious way to make a difference this Thanksgiving!
Through Community Servings' annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser, you can purchase a Thanksgiving pie while supporting an organization that provides medically tailored meals to individuals and families facing critical illnesses.
Pies will be available for pickup at locations throughout Eastern Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 24.
It's a simple way to make your Thanksgiving dessert a little more meaningful.
Celebrating the Community We Call Home
One of the things I love most about living and working in the Needham area is the strong sense of community. So many organizations, volunteers, and neighbors work throughout the year to make our towns wonderful places to live.
This Thanksgiving season, I hope you'll find an opportunity to get involved, support a local organization, or simply enjoy a community event with family and friends.
Do you have a favorite local organization or Thanksgiving tradition? I'd love to hear about it!
Please confirm event details, registration availability, and deadlines with each organization before attending.
